Gustine Vaganza
Peculiar and a bit over the top. 😎
✺There is Hope in Extravagance👀
Then, all motion ceases; the work is complete; the fumes of crimson, green and blue fire begin to rise at the wings; the music bursts into a crash of exultation; and, possibly to the general disenchantment, a burly man in a black frock steps out from the side and bows awkwardly. Then to shrill whistle, the first scene of the harlequinade closes in, and shuts out the brilliant vision. These magnificent scenes are significant of English energy, and cannot be approached in foreign theatres.
Let your letters run wild with Gustine Vaganza.
→ Moments of greatest dramatic intensity in a book musical are often performed in song. Proverbially, “when the emotion becomes too strong for speech, you sing; when it becomes too strong for song, you dance.” In a book musical, a song is ideally crafted to suit the character (or characters) and their situation within the story; although there have been times in the history of the musical (e.g. from the 1890s to the 1920s) when this integration between music and story has been tenuous. As The New York Times critic Ben Brantley described the ideal of song in theatre when reviewing the 2008 revival of Gypsy: “There is no separation at all between song and character...”🍸

Gustine Vaganza is a bold and imaginative typeface that pushes creative boundaries with its embrace of free expression. It combines playful, fluid and occasionally otherworldly features that make it both eye-catching and approachable. The design evolves with Gustine Extra, an even more intense and unique variant that amplifies the boldness of Vaganza.

Gustine Vaganza takes Gustine further. Derived from the Italian “estravaganza” without restraint, Gustine Vaganza stretches the limits: quirky, bold and dynamic it doubles down on Gustine’s DNA and brings new twists, flavour and personality to its forms.

Gustine Vaganza allows its letters to become loose and fluid, a little alien and therefore all the more relatable. Bold and unapologetic, it lends itself to branding, art, culture and standing out. Gustine’s more eccentric sister displays her handwritten fluidity in letters such as E, G, B, K, e, and k, bridging the gap between geometry and calligraphy. Deep joints in V, W or A further emphasise Gustine original sharpness, while t and f serve as highly recognisable key letters. And because a real Vaganza always demands more, simplified forms of y, p, q and a add a welcoming and familiar touch.

Vaganza becomes Extravaganza with Gustine’s unique family member, Gustine Extra, which takes the font family’s individuality to the extreme by delightfully escalating the Vaganza concept. With slightly different proportions and shapes, swashed initials, contrasting punctuation and intense joints, this stand-alone black display weight takes centre stage with gusto.

Providing versatile typographic support for any project, Gustine Vaganza has seven weights. Like all TypeMates fonts, it features an extensive character set that supports up to 200 languages that use the Latin alphabet, as well as a rich selection of symbols, icons, arrows and dingbats. It also includes a fun collection of emoji for added flair.
