Eine Geschichte der St. Galler Gegenwart
For the St. Gallen history publication, Weymann Serif delivers a typography that conceptually matches the content: rooted in tradition, designed for the present.
The book “Eine Geschichte der St. Galler Gegenwart” (A History of Contemporary St. Gallen) brings together 10 articles that examine how the past manifests itself in contemporary St. Gallen. In their texts, the authors take a close look at various aspects such as migration, healthcare, and gender equality, and show how current norms and ideas have been shaped by local history. The 264-page hardcover, designed by TGG, uses Weymann Serif for body text, large headings, and annotations.
Weymann Serif is a good fit both conceptually and stylistically. Although the serif font is relatively young, it ties in with the past in a similar way to the book's content: typographic traditions are used as a basis and reflected in the design. The font is also explicitly designed for reading and long texts and impresses in the book with its clear, rational, yet characterful design. This creates a harmonious connection between form and content, a typography that pays equal tribute to history and the present.
