Alexander Rütten

Interested in almost everything, Alexander constantly tackles new tasks and technologies, expanding his design horizon. His passion for type is the recurring theme that connects it all.

Alexander Rütten is a typeface and interface designer and partner of the Berlin based design studio Formsport. He studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier with Prof. Andreas Hogan. In 2002 he moved to Berlin, where he mainly worked as an editorial-designer and as an interface designer and developer. That time, Alexander also co-founded the design studio Formsport with Olivia Wood.

After designing several typefaces, winning two TDC competitions and a German Design Award nomination, he decided to cooperate on the design of Tuna with Felix Braden. Since 2021 he has been co-designing various typefaces in collaboration with Olivia Wood. Easy Grotesk is the second retail typeface designed by Ligature-Type, their joint type studio.
