George Triantafyllakos

Based in Thessaloniki, George has a Ph.D in Computer Science, works as a type, graphic and web developer and is trying to find his way somewhere between design and technology.

George Triantafyllakos was born in 1980 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he still lives and works. He holds a Ph.D in Participatory Design of Educational Software from the Computer Science Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He works as a type and graphic designer, as well as a web designer and developer. George started showcasing his work along with releasing free typefaces on backpacker.gr in 2006. In September 2015 he started the Atypical type foundry. He has designed typefaces for the Greek Font Society, collaborated with several type foundries in expanding Latin typefaces with the Greek script and has worked with a number of design studios for the design of bespoke typefaces for brands and design campaigns. In October 2019 George was awarded at the GRANSHAN Type Design Competition for the design of the Dolce Noir type family, while in April 2022, the Miasma Sharp typeface was awarded a Special Mention in the same competition.
